Lead Free Brass

Over the years there has been a lot of discussion and media reports on the amount of lead in brassware.

New Zealand is in the process of producing lead free brass that comes in contact with water, ie taps and pipe fittings. This has an impact on the way brassware is machined as the tools are more susceptible to damage and increases the time to produce. This may also see a small rise in prices for certain products. As a plumber we have to follow the confines of the New Zealand Building Code. Products in future coming from overseas will require to be lead free. Be aware when purchasing tap ware that other countries do not follow NZ Building Codes and therefore may not be suitable for install. Ask your supplier at the time of purchase.
