Leaking Water Main

Leaking water main

This leak was tricky to find , as water was pooling a good 2m away from the actual leak.

After searching a while I noticed where the leak was more likely to be and started to dig a trench to expose the water main. All the time I was watching for the tell tale signs of water movement. After digging approximately a metre, I finally found the swirling water I was looking for. After exposing the coupler on the pipe and turning the water back on to check, water was spraying from one side of the join. I removed the coupler to discover the pipe had been cut too short, the gap between the pipe should be a lot closer. The O ring that seals the join had come off the end of the pipe causing the leak. After cutting out a section of pipe and using two couplers to place a bridge of pipe between, ensuring the pipe was fully home in both fittings, it was a done deal. Leak fixed onto the next job.
