Valve Vented Low Pressure Hot Water Cylinder installation.
The original Hot Water Cylinder had leaked causing the base to corrode.
After taking the HWC out, the damage was more than appeared. The skirting had swollen and the gib was sodden. These had to be replaced and redecorated before the new HWC could be installed. This particular one is valve vented, meaning it doesn’t have an exhaust vent exiting the roof. Unfortunately the drain has been run in plastic, this should really be copper, due to the heat of the water that could pass through the pipe work. As this is run in concrete replacing it is out of the question. I was unable to install a safe tray due for a few good reasons, so I sat the HWC on a rubber honey comb mat, if there is a leak in future at least the bottom of the HWC shouldn’t corrode.
Hot water Cylinders are out of sight and out of mind. It’s important to check them once in a while, so that leaks don’t go undetected. Meeting your plumbing needs.
